Hollyoaks has confirmed a worrying alcohol story for Diane Hutchinson, in upcoming episodes.
Diane has had a difficult time recently, as she has struggled to come to terms with her child Ro’s transition.
Last week, viewers saw Ro ask to see the GP, as he is concerned about going through puberty in his body, and Diane was reluctant to make the appointment.

Things are currently tense between her and husband Tony, and the pair have begun to clash over their support for Ro, as Diane is less comfortable talking about the subject.

This week, the family attends Ro’s GP appointment, and are told the disappointing news that stopping puberty is no longer an option.
While Ro is referred to child and adolescent services, he is warned that there is a long waiting list.

After this frustrating appointment, while Ro is left feeling self-conscious about his appearance, Diane turns increasingly to wine for company – as she has been doing for the past few weeks.
In scenes that will air next week, the situation is set to escalate further, with Diane’s drinking becoming more obvious and more of a problem.
It’s Diane’s birthday, but the day doesn’t get off to a good start as she wakes up hungover, having been drinking heavily the previous night.

Tony is keen to make it a special day for his wife and has gone to a big effort to throw her a surprise party at The Dog.
However, when Diane arrives, she has been drinking already, so she reacts badly to the surprise and upsets not only herself but also Ro.
After the drama of the party, a concerned Tony attempts to talk to Diane about both her drinking and her anxiety.

He expresses his worries that she is drinking in order to self-medicate, but Diane is defensive about this.
But later, Diane decides to open up properly, and she speaks about the stress of the children and of Ro’s transition.
Is this a turning point for Diane, and will she seek support from those around her?
