John Paul McQueen's attempts to catch out serial killer Breda in Hollyoaks definitely did not go as planned tonight.

The first-look episode lead-in to Monday's (January 6) Hollyoaks Later on E4 picked up with John Paul (James Sutton) coming to grips with Auntie Breda being the village's serial killer, after finding the box of evidence she'd tried planting in Mercedes' flat.

John Paul was able to show the evidence to Mercy (Jennifer Metcalfe) once she was temporarily released from custody, convincing her that there must be additional evidence somewhere close by.

"She really did it," Mercedes finally realised. "She killed all them people!"

A chance conversation with Goldie (Chelsee Healey) at the pub confirmed to John Paul that Breda (Moya Brady) still had the pig farm after all, so Mercedes set off to look for more clues.

The two did not realise that Breda was lurking a few feet away listening while John Paul sent Mercy off to the farm.

Back in the village, a series of events started to shift the suspicion for the murders firmly in Breda's direction. Liberty (Jessamy Stoddart) was the first to raise questions when she noticed that Bobby (Jayden Fox) and Curtis (Charlie Hughes) both had those creepy Breda dolls.

Later, Goldie was horrified to find that Jack Osborne's (Jimmy McKenna) engagement ring from Breda had 'L.L.' engraved on the inside, after he gave the ring back to her. Goldie couldn't help but wonder if the ring actually belonged to the murdered Louis Loveday.

At The Dog, John Paul attempted to trick Breda into confessing her crimes, but the killer turned the tables when she revealed she knew he'd taken her evidence box.

"You saw me when you first came back, hiding the box. You moved it, didn't you?" she menacingly asked. "Oh yeah, I saw you both in the car park."

Before John Paul could do anything, he inadvertently revealed that Mercedes had gone to the pig farm and then collapsed — having drunk spiked tea!

Mercedes had already reached the pig farm by that point and, before long, found a helpless Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) locked in one of the pens.

Unfortunately, previously-released spoilers for Hollyoaks Later have revealed that Breda will interrupt Mercy's attempt to save Tony.
