Emmerdale star Danny Miller has spoken out after upsetting rumours about his dad were posted online. The actor, who plays Aaron Dingle, took to social media to clear up "awful" claims that his dad Vince Miller was dead.

Last year, Miller shared his dad's heartbreaking dementia diagnosis with his followers and has been documenting the reality of knowing and loving someone with the disease. The star has shared candid updates and emotional anecdotes, as he and his family navigate the difficult situation.

However, in his most recent Facebook video, Miller was forced to set the record straight after seeing social media posts claiming his dad had passed away in a car accident.

"My dad's alive. What an awful, awful thing to just be on your main grid. Imagine the day when it actually comes and the sad news happens, if that happens before me, with his dementia, people go, 'Oh, I thought he died two years ago'. My dad is alive," he said on The Miller Family page.

The actor explained that he doesn't usually "reply or respond or engage in this shit", but had to on this occasion as his 17-year-old niece had been messaging him asking if it was true.

"Family members and old friends of his messaging me, and I thought I'll just address it on here and hopefully people will get that he is alive."

Miller also took the opportunity to call out the people making up the stories, branding them "utter shite" and saying it has been "affecting" his whole family.

"One thing about the spotlight, public eye, fame, whatever you want to call it. I've been involved in this world for over half my life and I've read some shit about me in the past - [they're] making it up and these are journalists - but now we've got everyday people making Facebook and Instagram accounts and posting utter shite."

He continued: "I've seen some rubbish in the past, but when it's affecting the family personally and then affecting me indirectly, it's just something I just had to tell."

More information about dementia is available via organisations including the NHS and Dementia UK. Resources for readers in the US are available via the National Institutes of Health.
