Emmerdale's Mackenzie Boyd lures Ross Barton to a barn next week, where a vicious argument breaks out – ending with Ross being thrown over the side of a mezzanine.

Having nursed the terrible secret about Ross being baby Leyla's biological father for weeks, Mack is barely hiding his fury and hatred from his one-time pal.

Worried about Mack's odd behaviour, Ross tries to work out if he knows the truth about his one-night stand with Charity. But it's not until they arrive at the deserted barn that Mack demands answers, leading to the dangerous tussle…

It's been a couple of weeks since Mack learned the devastating truth. He's also dealing with the horrifying revelation that Charity was blackmailed and raped by vile Dr Todd. With so much to handle, Mack can be forgiven for struggling to cope.

What to Read Next

While Mack's feelings towards Charity are complex, his views about Ross are more straightforward. The two men are part of the same blended family but have struck up a nice bond as mates. But in sleeping with Charity and being complicit in the Leyla lie, Ross has destroyed any trust.

Once the pair are alone in the barn, Mack demands that Ross finally comes clean and admits his part in the terrible Leyla lie. However, a war of words soon becomes physical as Mack's anger pushes him to attack his former friend.

"Tensions flare, they trade heated words, and the confrontation escalates into a scuffle," reveals Lawrence Robb, who plays Mack. "Mack pushes Ross over the side. In that moment, Mack isn't trying to kill him – he just wants to hurt him. He achieves that and walks away."

Mack might be walking away from what he's done, but Ross's condition remains unclear. However, it's evident that the fallout from this terrible betrayal will destroy lives and continue to have deep consequences for everyone caught up in it. Can Mack forgive Charity or Ross for what they've done?

"That's the million-dollar question," teases Lawrence. "When you are faced with a betrayal, can you truly forgive? I think there's an element of Mack and Charity sticking a Band-Aid over it. Mack doesn't have much time to deal with it because he immediately enters protection mode.

"But Sarah and Jacob don't know the truth yet! It's up to the writers and producers to decide on how and when that happens, and what the consequences will be!"

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
