Emmerdale spoilers follow for Friday’s episode (30 May), which is available to watch now on streaming service ITVX and hasn’t yet aired on TV.

Emmerdale’s Robert Sugden has suffered two major setbacks, after his dramatic return to the village this week.

Fans were overjoyed to see the popular character crash his ex-husband’s wedding, as Aaron was about to marry Robert’s half-brother John.

Aaron was initially furious that Robert had suddenly walked back into his life, but it wasn’t long before the former couple were sharing a secret kiss.

Robert explained that he had got out of prison after six years when he appealed his murder charge – arguing that Lee Posner’s fight with his brother Luke could have also played a role in his death.

After an angry confrontation between brothers Robert and John, Robert gave Aaron an ultimatum and forced him to choose between his two love interests.

Unfortunately for Robert, in today’s episode Aaron told him that he would be marrying John, and that their kiss earlier in the day was a mistake.

John prepared to officially call the wedding off, but Aaron arrived back at the venue at the last minute, and the ceremony finally resumed.

In spite of killer John’s many visions of how the wedding could possibly go wrong, he and Aaron ended up getting married without a hitch – while things got even worse for Robert.

His wild gesture to try and win back Aaron meant that he missed his first probation meeting, and he was reported by a ‘concerned citizen’ who he suspects to be John.

Robert was arrested for breaking the terms of his license and ended up back in prison, later phoning Victoria to tell her that he is set to be back behind bars for a while (though we know that this definitely isn't the last we'll see of him).
