Emmerdale airs John Sugden's darkest scenes yet as he prepares to strike again

Emmerdale has aired John Sudgen's darkest scenes yet as the killer prepares to strike again.

Viewers have seen John plagued by nightmares as he prepares to marry Aaron Dingle.

Ahead of the big day, John has been on edge that Nate Robinson's body will be found when the lake is dredged, causing him to try and flee the village.

But on Monday's episode John had a change of heart and returned after learning the dredging has been cancelled.

However, John faced another problem on his return as Aidan's mother Cathleen was waiting for him and was shocked to learn he was about to marry another man.

On tonight's episode (27 May) John agreed to go with Cathleen to see Aidan but while in the car he had a vision of Aidan interrupting his wedding to Aaron.

As Cathleen and John drove off they were seen by Aaron and Victoria, with Aaron later deciding to go to the hospital to find out what was going on.

At the hospital, Cathleen told John that Aidan has been asking for him ever since he woke up. But when Aidan saw John all he could say was: "No."

Cathleen then left the two men alone, with Aidan only able to say: "You," to John.

John then told him: "Why did you have to start talking?

"I loved you more than you ever did me, I tried to show you how much you needed me. I saved you and I risked my own life to do it and it's only because you were too weak that it ended like it did, like this."

As Aidan tried to protest, John continued: "I save people, it's what I do it's who I am. I'm meant to be getting married today.

"What are the odds that you would chose today to finally find a spine? Why couldn't you have just let me go?"

John then turned off the sound on Aidan's monitor and went to give him a fatal injection, saying he had no choice but to kill him to stop him from telling everyone what happened.

But just as he was about to administer the lethal dose, John had a change of heart and said he couldn't do it. However, while John was talking, Aidan had a cardiac arrest and lost consciousness.

While John thought about leaving him to die, he ended up calling for help and started chest compressions himself.

Meanwhile, Aaron arrived at the hospital and ran into Cathleen as he was trying to find John.

As Cathleen apologised for interrupting their big day, John appeared and told Cathleen her son had slipped back into a coma.

Aaron then confronted John about why he decided to go to the hospital on their wedding day, accusing him of still being in love with Aidan.

John was adamant it wasn't true but Aaron said he couldn't go through with the wedding and walked off.

In the car park John told Aaron he couldn't do this to him but Aaron replied: "What are you going to do to stop me?" before driving off and leaving John behind.
