Emmerdale confirms Amit Sharma's secret over Rishi's death

Emmerdale spoilers follow from Friday's episode (October 13).

Emmerdale has confirmed that Amit Sharma was a secret witness to the death of his brother Rishi.

Amit confessed to his son Suni in Friday's hour-long episode after arousing suspicion with an unexpected panic attack at Holdgate.

Earlier this week, the village newcomer was visibly uncomfortable as he paid a visit to Rishi's old home and let slip that he'd been there before.

This left Suni confused and caused him to demand answers from his dad.

Emmerdale's latest episode saw Amit come clean about how he'd visited Rishi on the day of his death in July.

Amit told Suni: "I heard that Jai found out he was adopted. I didn't know what he knew beyond that and Rishi wasn't answering his calls or his emails, so what could I do but come here and talk to him?

"He wasn't pleased to see me but I was going to say what I came to say. We talked right here."

Amit recalled how Rishi tried to close the door on him, but he persisted by following him inside.

The brothers rowed at the top of the stairs over Rishi's decision to tell Jai about Amit being his biological father.

Amit explained: "We were up there and I was holding his shirt so he couldn't run away, begging him almost. Hating myself for doing it, hating him for making me.

"Then he grabbed my hand and I was still holding his shirt. He yanked it, he simply lost his balance."

Amit insisted that he did not push Rishi, but he did abandon him at his death scene after checking his pulse and realising that he'd already passed away.

He said: "I knew how it would look – the warring brothers, one dead, the other one claiming it's a freak accident. I took his hand and I kissed it. I told him 'I'm sorry' and walked away from my own dead brother."

Although Amit appeared remorseful over his actions, he forcefully warned Suni never to mention his secret again.
