EastEnders spoilers follow for Thursday’s episode (January 23), which is available to watch now on streaming service BBC iPlayer and hasn’t yet aired on TV.

EastEnders has confirmed the verdict in Sonia Fowler’s murder trial, in the show’s latest episode.

This week, Sonia decided to change her plea to guilty, concerned about the impact the stressful trial was having on her unborn baby.

Bianca, still trapped in the lock-up, told Reiss that she would confess to killing Debbie and then disappear forever, in a desperate bid to get Sonia out of prison.

Reiss followed this plan and disturbed the court with the new evidence, but he was told that the jury will still have to reach a verdict – so he smuggled the video to one of the jury members.

In today’s episode, Reiss was invited to The Vic to have a drink with Sonia’s friends ahead of the verdict in court. When Kat asked to see the video of Bianca’s confession, convinced that her friend wasn’t a killer, things got tense with Reiss.

As Reiss waited for the jury to come to a decision, Debbie’s mother Brenda confronted him and told him that she couldn’t wait for Sonia to be found guilty.

But when the jury returned to court, it was announced that Sonia had been found not guilty of Debbie’s murder, to the delight of Reiss and the horror of Brenda.

Now a free woman, Sonia was reunited with Reiss and they headed to The Vic for a celebration with her loved ones.

But she remained confused about how Bianca could have killed Debbie, and Kat’s suspicions grew further when Reiss tripped up about having a copy of the confession video.

Back at home, Sonia spoke about the kindness of Bianca to take the rap for her. Reiss then explained that in the video, she had revealed details only the killer would know, so she couldn’t have been making it up.

With Sonia keen to get in touch with her sister, Reiss returned to the lock-up and told Bianca that he was no longer letting her go, leaving her distraught.

"Me and Sonia are going to be together with our baby," he said, "and I won’t let anything, or anyone, stand in our way. I won’t let anything destroy it."

Will Bianca ever be able to escape, and will Kat manage to get to the truth about Reiss?
