EastEnders spoilers follow for Tuesday’s episode (January 22), which is available to watch now on streaming service BBC iPlayer and hasn’t yet aired on TV.
EastEnders’ Reiss Colwell has taken a huge risk in his attempt to save Sonia Fowler from prison, in the show’s latest episode.
This week, Sonia decided to plead guilty to killing Debbie to try and get a reduced sentence, as she was concerned about the strain the trial was having on her unborn baby.
Reiss told Bianca, who he is holding captive, about his fiancée’s big decision and she was horrified. Bianca came up with another plan and offered to say that she killed Debbie instead.

In today’s episode, Bianca asked Reiss to record her confessing to murder then let her go – she would disappear and never contact Sonia again, who would be released from prison.

However, Reiss wasn’t convinced by Bianca’s idea, and he ran out of the storage unit as she grew even more desperate.
Later, Ruby spotted Reiss looking lost on a bench in the Square, and he explained that he feels he has failed Sonia. Ruby could sympathise with the situation, and as she spoke about trying to help Martin, she remarked that even the craziest plans stand a chance of working.

Reiss took Ruby’s advice to heart and returned to Bianca with a script and an old phone, to record her confessing that she killed Debbie.
Sonia prepared to change her plea in court, but Reiss arrived at the last minute and declared that Bianca is the murderer, having emailed over the video evidence.
Jack and Martin were confused about this new development, and Jack proposed that Bianca lied to help her sister.

Reiss was told that it will take weeks for the CPS to process this new evidence, while the jury will still have to come up with a verdict. While they could appeal Sonia’s sentence based on Bianca’s confession, it could take months.
Realising that Bianca’s plan still hadn’t helped Sonia, Reiss resorted to desperate measures and forced one of the members of the jury to watch the video confession.
As he left the woman with the phone, will Reiss’ latest scheme have consequences for him and Sonia?
EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
