Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Alan Halsall has teased details of Cassie Plummer's upcoming exit storyline, which will see actor Claire Sweeney depart the ITV soap after three years in the role.

It was announced in January that Sweeney had called time on her stint in Weatherfield, though it wasn't immediately clear how her exit would play out. Since then, it has been confirmed that her ex-partner Ross, Tyrone's father, will show up.

With Cassie set to propose to Steve McDonald in next week's scenes, Ross's arrival will be part of a hectic period, and her chequered past will leave Tyrone uncomfortable in the coming weeks.

"Over the last couple of years, there have been lies regarding her addiction and other issues, which have always disappointed Tyrone because he just wants the truth," explains Halsall, who plays Tyrone.

"With something as big as finding out about his father, discovering more lies attached to that is devastating. He's completely disappointed and upset with his mother. For Tyrone, he's sick of the lies and the trouble she brings to his door."

"He's a family man and wants his mum in his life, but he has his own issues without Cassie adding to them," notes the actor, who also shared some details about his character's relationship with Ross.

"He looks at his dad and thinks, 'I've got a father in my life now, and nothing can go wrong.' But we know that's not the case, certainly in Tyrone's life," Halsall says. "He knows full well what kind of trouble and lies this guy could bring to his doorstep."

While it remains to be seen how Ross's arrival will affect Tyrone and Cassie, Halsall paid tribute to Sweeney ahead of her exit, which comes as the actor prepares for a stage role in a production of Annie.

"Personally, I get on so well with Claire, so it feels like we’re missing a member of the family," he says. "She has a great opportunity to play Miss Hannigan in Annie, and I wish her all the best. But I hope to see my mum again soon."

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
