Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has suggested a surprising new development for her character Cassie Plummer, revealing that she'd love to see her get married.
Cassie is currently one of Weatherfield's most unpopular residents, after it was revealed last week that she has been drugging Ken Barlow for weeks while working as his carer, as well as making expensive purchases using his credit card.
With Cassie having finally been caught out over her scheming, she doesn't have many friends left on the cobbles – but it seems that her new love interest, Steve McDonald, may be able to forgive her.

Revealing that Steve could be "the key" to turning Cassie's life around, Sweeney told Digital Spy and other press that she'd love to play out a big wedding between the new couple.
"I said this to him the other day, 'I'd love us to get married'. He went, 'Not another wedding'," she joked, referring to Steve's multiple past marriages. "I've never been married in real life, I've been married once in Brookside. It would be lovely to have a wedding in Corrie."

Opening up further about Cassie and Steve's relationship, the actor said that she "would love for them to end up together".

"There's so much fun in the scenes with them. Cassie could have been doing some evil stuff and thinking terrible things, but the minute he comes she turns into a giggly teenager," she said.
"He just strips all of this away from her and it's really very genuine. They just can't help themselves. It's literally forbidden fruit. He should not be going near Cassie.
"No one's talking to Cassie. She's a pariah, persona non grata on the cobbles, and suddenly he can't help himself, he literally can't. It's lust, but with genuine fondness and love as well."
Confirming that viewers can expect to see more from Cassie and Steve's romance, Sweeney praised her co-star Simon Gregson, calling him "hysterical".

"He's a kind soul and he's an absolute joy. It's not like going to work, he makes me laugh. I adore him," she said.
The star, who is also known for her role in Brookside as Lindsey Corkhill, added that she loves playing Cassie because "she's not one-dimensional" and has multiple layers to her personality.
"They wrote some great stuff for Bill [Roache, who plays Ken] and me just after this, and it was very moving," she said. "It's Cassie explaining why she's done all these things and apologising to him. I just love playing her because she's funny, she's a bit evil, she's vulnerable. She's an absolute joy to play."
There's more drama coming up for Cassie later this month, as Ken's daughter Tracy McDonald comes up with a nasty plan to get revenge on Cassie for everything she's done.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
