Coronation Street star Colson Smith has opened up about feeling emotional over his final ever scripts for the show.

Back in January, Colson announced that he was leaving the soap after 14 years, having starred as Craig Tinker since 2011.

Speaking to his co-stars Jack P Shepherd and Ben Price on their On The Sofa podcast, Colson shared his reaction to receiving his last ever scripts.

Asked by Ben how he felt when he finally read his exit script, Colson said: "Alright, yeah. It feels very real.

"I think it's that bit of, I didn't realise how big of a deal it was, actually getting your last scripts and reading it. It's quite a lot to process and go through, but I'm excited for the work, I'm excited to play the exit, really, I just want it to happen in a weird way."

Quizzed by his co-star about it "feeling real", Ben asked: "Are you saying that before you kind of had it in your head that it’s going to go, but seeing it in black and white is the bit where you thought, 'oh, I’ve got X amounts of weeks left, this is it.'"

Colson replied: "I’m like 'okay, I’m into the last stretch now, I’ve got four or five weeks and then I’m twiddling my thumbs playing Football Manager'."

Back when his exit was announced, the soap star shared a statement to Instagram, saying: "I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street. I’ve learnt pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I’m excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy.

"For Me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES!"

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
