Coronation Street spoilers follow from Monday's episode (March 3), which is available to watch now on streaming service ITVX but hasn't yet aired on ITV1.

Coronation Street has confirmed Max Turner's sentence for arson.

The troubled teenager's fate was revealed in Monday's episode, which was released for early viewing on ITVX this morning.

In tense scenes, Max faced court to hear his punishment after he recently handed himself in over the devastating fire at the Platt house.

Max and his loved ones hoped for some leniency, as he'd openly confessed his guilt and shown remorse for his actions.

As the sentencing hearing got under way, the judge carefully weighed up the case.

Although Max's steps to make amends were all taken into account, the judge added: "I cannot ignore the aggravating factors in this case. The planning involved, the use of an accelerant, the fact that the fire could have easily spread to neighbouring properties.

"And by far the most serious factor, multiple people were endangered. I also note that you were subject to a suspended sentence order at the time.

"After credit for your guilty plea, the sentence I arrive at is six and a half years in prison."

Subsequently, plans were made to transfer Max to a prison in County Durham the following day.

Max's loved ones are desperate to keep him safe after ongoing threats from dangerous gangster Harvey Gaskell, who has threatened to get to Max in prison. The Platt family still owe thousands of pounds to Harvey after David's ill-fated theft plan last year.

Max's lengthy sentence was no real surprise, as Coronation Street actor Paddy Bever recently announced that he'd left the role after nearly four years.

Speaking in January, Paddy commented: "After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max and Coronation Street to explore new opportunities.

"I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way.

"I'm eternally grateful for the chance to bring Max's story to life and it's been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show.

"This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
