Coronation Street producer on huge consequences over Stephen and Jenny secret

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's producer Iain MacLeod has warned of "long-lasting consequences" after Jenny Connor's recent kiss with Stephen Reid.

Jenny gave into temptation with Stephen in the back room of the Rovers Return last week, as she believed that her relationship with Leo Thompkins was over.

Jenny and Stephen's moment of passion was interrupted when Gemma Winter walked into the room, with Leo waiting in the wings outside.

Leo popped the question to Jenny, who delightedly accepted. Jenny was quick to assure Gemma that her kiss with Stephen meant nothing.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media about this story's aftermath, MacLeod teased: "Well, obviously, secrets never stay buried in soap for very long, do they? Or sometimes they do stay buried for quite a while, but they always come out in the end. So inevitably this secret will come out too.

"Jenny thinks she's found her happy ever after with Leo. Obviously, in the wake of Johnny's death, she did probably rush into this relationship a bit quickly and then spent a long time torturing herself over the idea that: 'He's too young for me, I'm too old for him, is he dating me because he's got some fetish for slightly older women?'

"Eventually, none of that proved to be the case. Leo is entirely genuine and Jenny could have her happy ever after with him. But unfortunately, she's made this mistake.

"In terms of the person she chose to make the mistake with, namely Stephen, she couldn't really have picked a worst person."

He added: "So yes, it will all go off in fairly spectacular fashion across the month of September, with long-lasting consequences for the whole show, really."

Corrie bosses are tipping Stephen as a major new villain for the cobbles, with worse behaviour to come from him in the next few weeks and months.
