Coronation Street stars feared reaction to Amy and Jacob

Coronation Street stars Elle Mulvaney and Jack James Ryan have opened up about Amy Barlow and Jacob Hay's romance.

In an interview with Inside Soap the stars revealed that they were worried about what fans would think of them getting together on the soap.

"We were worried at the start about how viewers were going to take to Jacob and Amy, because Jacob was a bad lad," explained Mulvaney.

"So to have everyone take it so well, and then to be nominated for this award, is just amazing," she added.

Drug dealer Jacob and Amy's unlikely love story began earlier this year and the pair have been nominated for an Inside Soap Award for Best Romance this year.

Jack told the publication that they have worked hard to bring the couple to life and said that it's "nice" that the fans are behind them.

"We've really put our heart and soul into this story, and we do have a great relationship off screen," he said of their chemistry. "It's just nice to know that the fans have got behind Amy and Jacob as a couple and are really enjoying it.

Though the actors are enjoying their time together as a couple on the cobbles now, they revealed their initial misgivings about the pairing.

"Initially it was: 'How on earth is this going to work?' because we'd never had any scenes together," explained Elle. "We were quite cautious, but the writing has been great. We've been so lucky to have both the comedy and the romance."

"I was really nervous coming into the scenes having to kiss Elle when we'd never even said hello before," added Jack. "But she was such a pro and just went for it. Amy's really brought out the best side of Jacob, because he's infatuated with her. It's cute."
