Coronation Street's Sam to hide a secret in new scenes

Coronation Street has confirmed that a new storyline for Sam Blakeman will start next week.

Nick Tilsley's young son will be seen behaving secretively in an upcoming episode of the ITV soap.

Next week, Nick couldn't be prouder as he wishes Sam luck for his first day of high school.

When Sam returns home later on, his friend Hope Stape watches him furtively slip a letter into the postbox.

The show hasn't yet confirmed who Sam is contacting or why he's keeping it a secret, but it's a plot that will be explored further in the coming weeks.

Nearly a year ago, Sam took centre stage in a major storyline when his mum Natasha was tragically killed by Harvey Gaskell.

The aftermath saw Sam stop speaking to his family and friends as he struggled to cope with his grief.

Over time, the youngster started talking again, with Hope playing a key role when they started chatting over walkie-talkies.

Rachel Leskovac, who played Natasha, paid tribute to her on-screen son Jude Riordan (Sam) after her final scenes aired.

Reflecting on her last day, she said last year: "It was a really emotional day for both of us, because it was our last day of filming together. We'd got each other little gifts so we ended up cheering each other up in the car park after we'd finished.

"He's got a really special place in my heart. From the first time I FaceTimed him before I met him on set, I just knew that we would get on really well and it's been an absolute joy to film with him.

"I'm going to really miss working with him, but we've said hopefully at some point in the future we'll get to work together again."

Will Mellor has recently returned to filming at Coronation Street and will be back on screen as Harvey in the coming weeks.
