Coronation Street fans have shared their shock mistaken identity theory in the Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) attack mystery.

Last week's episodes saw the character struck from behind by an unknown person inside The Bistro.

Despite Coronation Street previously revealing its official list of suspects, fans have been quick to come up with their own theories about who the culprit could be.

The latest suggests Adam wasn't even the intended target.

A theory shared by some fans online suggests Ray Crosby (Mark Frost) was the intended victim rather than Adam.

After all, the attack took place in Ray's business (the Bistro), it was dark due to the power cut on the street and Ray has been upsetting his fair share of Weatherfield residents.

"I'm guessing it was either Simon who attacked Adam or someone who mistook Adam sat in the darkened Bistro with his head down as being Ray," said one fan.

"It could be some revenge grudge against Ray, a simple case of mistaken identity," added another.

The mistaken identity theory follows other Coronation Street fans suspecting his cousin Simon Barlow of the assault.

Among the official suspects in Adam's attack are Sarah Barlow (Tina O'Brien), Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne), Carla Connor (Alison King) and Gary Windass (Mikey North).
