Coronation Street's David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) lets down his adoptive son Max Turner (Harry McDermott) in a big way next week – and it seems that David is hiding something.

As David's sister Sarah Barlow (Tina O'Brien) and her new husband Adam (Sam Robertson) return from their honeymoon, David promises brother Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) that he will be at a family meal at Valandros later. But after he covertly throws a ripped t-shirt into the Platts' washing machine, David lies down and falls into a deep sleep.

Meanwhile, Max is delivering a big speech at the Outreach Awards and is hugely disappointed when he sees David's empty chair in the audience after David had promised to be there.

David is horrified when he wakes up and realises that he's missed Max's speech. Trying to explain himself to devastated Max doesn't help, as the poor boy remains hurt and confused by David's no-show when he was counting on his support.

Will Max be able to forgive his dad for letting him down?

David has been acting pretty strangely in recent weeks as he appears to have developed a worrying taste for dangerous situations.

His reaction to being mugged recently hinted that he had enjoyed the situation, as he laughed after escaping and later said that he felt the best he had in a long time after arriving home.

He has since been seen seeking out a fight with a stranger at the tram station and his ripped clothing seems to suggest that he will find another dangerous situation to get involved in next week.

But what is David up to and will anyone be able to help him before he ends up in real trouble?

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Wednesday, May 6 and Friday, May 8 at 7.30pm on ITV.
