The hapless character becomes an unwitting accomplice when one of his cab passengers holds up a garage at knifepoint.
Simon Gregson has been spotted filming the scenes on location this week.
Paparazzi pictures show that Steve picks up a troublesome customer called Dave, who seems friendly enough at first glance but soon shows his true colours.
When Dave asks for a brief stop-off at a garage during his journey, Steve is only too happy to oblige.
As Steve waits outside, Dave threatens the frightened garage worker with a knife and robs the place.

Dave then heads back to the cab and forces Steve to act as his getaway driver, which could leave the popular character in major trouble with the law.
As Corrie films its scenes two months in advance, fans will have to wait until May 17 to see the shock robbery and what the consequences are for Steve.
In the meantime, Corrie is now off air until Sunday (March 24) as tonight's usual double bill has been cancelled due to live football coverage on ITV.
Sunday's hour-long special, scheduled in to make up for it, will focus on the emotional aftermath of Rana Habeeb's death.
