Casualty star Milo Clarke, who plays Teddy Gowan, has confirmed that the show will have an improvised Christmas episode.

In an interview with Inside Soap, the actor revealed more about the Christmas episode and what we can expect from it.

"We have a paramedic special looking at the strain on the NHS – pretty much all of that was improvised," said Milo.

"It was scary, but fun. I hope people enjoy it."

"Casualty picks up dramatically with great storylines, brilliant guest performances, and the paramedics have something good coming up."

In an interview with Digital Spy in October, Milo opened up a bit more about the paramedic special. He revealed that the next evolution of his character's relationship with Sah Brockner (played by Arin Smethurst) and Jan Jenning (played by Di Botcher) will be "tested".

"Hopefully that should be fun and keep the audience on their toes. That's all I can say so far,” he said.

Will added a little more about why doing the NHS story is so important to them.

"In all seriousness, it's hugely important. It's at the very essence of why the show's there. It's not just about medicine, it's about the peculiar way we do medicine in this country," he said.

"The perceived difficulty would be in avoiding a party political point of view, but it's not that. It's a political point of view only in as much as it's about helping people who are in need of help, and the best way of dealing with it, and the most feasible way of dealing with it, in a world which is very, very different than when the NHS was set up."

Casualty airs on Saturdays on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
