We have to wait until January 2026 to now see Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's latest collaboration, and the first trailer for The Rip is sure to make that wait more agonising.

Netflix has released the first trailer for the crime thriller, written and directed by Joe Carnahan, and it's an intense and gripping teaser for the movie which will immediately make you want to add it to your watchlist.

Check out the trailer for The Rip above, and start counting down the days to its Netflix release on 16 January 2026.

The Rip centres on a team of Miami cops who, as you see in the trailer, discover $20 million in cash in a derelict stash house, when the tip that led them there said it was only meant to be $300,000 in the house.

As outside forces start to learn about the size of their latest seizure, everything is called into question, including who they can rely on, and trust begins to fray among the team.

The thriller also boasts an impressive supporting cast including Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins and Kyle Chandler.

Damon and Affleck produced The Rip through their Artists Equity company, alongside Luciana Barroso and Dani Bernfeld.

If you needed more reasons to be excited for the movie, Affleck previously described it as "Heat meets Narc meets Training Day" when they debuted The Rip at a Netflix event back in January.

Talking earlier this week to GQ, who described The Rip as a "tense and taut ride", Carnahan explained how the movie will subvert people's expectations of Damon and Affleck.

"You're playing with genre tropes and two guys that have been on the screen for 30 plus years. People are going to come in there with their own ideas, and preconceptions about them as actors and as celebrities," he explained.

"So, I think it poses an interesting question because people are going to plug in, 'Well, I trust Matt Damon more', or, 'I trust Ben Affleck more'."

The Rip is released on Netflix on 16 January 2026.
