Universal

The iconic video game character made a triumphant return on the big screen in 2023 with The Super Mario Bros Movie, which is now available for everyone to enjoy on Netflix UK. Wahoo!

The movie sees Brooklyn plumbers Mario and Luigi (voiced by Chris Pratt and Charlie Day) being warped down a pipe into the Mushroom Kingdom, where they meet Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) and face the ferocious Bowser (Jack Black).

Unlike the infamous 1993 movie, this one was developed by Nintendo alongside Despicable Me creators Illumination, and with Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto as a producer. The result is a highly entertaining adventure with plenty of action and an avalanche of Easter Eggs.

If you're hungry for more, the sequel The Super Mario Bros Movie 2 has already been confirmed. Let's-a go!

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)

puss in boots the last wish
Universal

His introduction in Shrek 2 in 2004 instantly made Puss in Boots an animated star that could stand on his own, which was proved in his first solo adventure in 2011.

Over a decade later, the excellent Puss in Boots: The Last Wish shows there is still much to know and enjoy about the character.

With Antonio Banderas once again lending his voice to the titular feline, the sequel sees Puss realising he has lost eight of his nine lives in his dangerous escapades, so he has only one left to live. When Death becomes a tangible fear (and an absolutely terrifying villain), the hero goes on a quest to find the mystical Last Wish and restore all of his lives.

With Shrek 5 heading to cinemas next year, this is the perfect opportunity to get reacquainted with everyone's favourite puss.

NBA legend Michael Jordan becomes the Looney Tunes' basketball coach in this timeless nineties' classic, which is now available to watch on Netflix.

Mixing animation and live action, the story starts when an evil alien kidnaps the Looney Tunes to turn them into the newest attraction at his amusement park. However, Bugs Bunny challenges them to a basketball game to win their freedom, and they accept.

After the aliens steal the basketball powers from a few NBA stars and it's clear they are not going to play fair, Bugs Bunny asks Michael Jordan to help them win.
