Netflix has released an intense new trailer for its upcoming film The Rip. Previously described as a "gripping crime thriller", the film stars Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as a pair of cops who discover millions in cash in a derelict stash house.
Inspired by true events, the film is slated for release globally on Netflix on 16 January, having previously been delayed from its autumn release.
Joining Damon and Affleck on the stellar cast are Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Kyle Chandler.
Written and Directed by Joe Carnahan, the director previously opened up about his inspiration for The Rip, saying "it came out of a deeply personal experience" his friend went through as the Miami Dade police department's head of tactical narcotics.

The synopsis reads: "Upon discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house, trust among a team of Miami cops begins to fray. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question — including who they can rely on."
What to Read Next
If the action-packed trailer for the film is anything to go by, it looks set to be a tense and dramatic thriller, full of double-crossing and suspicion.
Per the trailer, the group uncovers millions of dollars in cash stored in buckets inside the walls. On making the discovery, the group must act fast, deciding what to do with the money.

As the trailer opens, Damon's character can be heard saying: "From the outside looking in, it seems simple. Seize the cash, count it, and turn it in. On the inside, it's different."
"In Miami, you have to count the money on-site, so that everybody knows how much is there," Damon told Tudum. "They know that it’s almost certainly cartel money that belongs to very dangerous people who are probably going to come get it. They’re on the clock, and they have to start thinking of defending where they are because they can’t just leave."
Affleck added: "It begs the question: What do you do when faced with this massive temptation? What does that mean? What’s it like to see that up close? And then also, who do you trust?"
The Rip will release globally on Netflix on January 16, 2026.
