KPop Demon Hunters 2 was announced shortly after the runaway success of the first film, but fans of the animated hit will have to wait almost half a decade for it to hit their screens.

The original Netflix film follows fictional K-pop band Huntr/x - made up of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey - who also demon hunters tasked with protecting the world from supernatural dangers.

KPop Demon Hunters quickly became a cultural phenomenon, becoming the most-watched original title in Netflix history.

A sequel was confirmed afterwards, but its planned release is currently four years away in 2029, as reported by Bloomberg.

Being an animated film, this sort of lead time is not that unusual, but it hasn't stopped fans from taking to social media to lament the gap between releases.

"2029??? girl bye I’ll be 50 years old," one user wrote on X, while another replied, "I’m crying wth???? I thought 2026??"

A third posted, "2029? That’s like five eternities away," and many shared the age they would be and what might have happened in their life in the break between both films.

"At this point I’ll forget that the sequel is happening, but also happy that is coming. The pain of loving animation, and it taking forever to make…" another said.

Speaking to Variety earlier this year, the film's co-director Maggie Kang expressed her desire for a sequel.

"We’ve set up so much for potential backstory," she said. "Obviously, there’s a lot of questions that are left unanswered and areas that are not explored. We had to do that because there’s only so much movie you could tell in 85 minutes."

Speaking to the BBC last month, Kang added that while there is "nothing official they can talk about", she and co-director Chris Appelhans think "there's definitely more we can do with these characters in this world".

She continued: "And whatever it will be, it will be a story that deserves to be a sequel, and it will be something that we want to see."

KPop Demon Hunters is streaming now on Netflix. KPop Demon Hunters 2 is slated for release in 2029.
