KPop Demon Hunters, the animated fantasy film starring Arden Cho and Ahn Hyo-seop, has become the fourth most popular English-language movie on Netflix of all time.

The musical has garnered 158.8 million views across the platform in its first seven weeks.

To top the list, it would need to beat Carry-On and Don't Look Up, which are in second and third place with 172.1 million and 171.4 million views, respectively.

As for the top spot, that currently belongs to the 2021 action comedy Red Notice, starring Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot. It has a whopping 230.9 million views.

Because Netflix's 'most popular' chart is based on the total views in the first 91 days of release, it means that KPop Demon Hunters still has another six weeks to climb higher in the ranking.

Released on Netflix in June, KPop Demon Hunters follows Rumi, Mira, and Zoey – members of the K-pop girl group Huntr/x who secretly guard humanity from supernatural threats. When they're confronted by the Saja Boys, a rival band made up of demons, they're forced to fight for all they hold dear.

A critical and commercial success, the movie currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.

"KPop Demon Hunters delivers not only a cornucopia of earworms whose melodies will be lingering in your brain for weeks, but also a fast and funny genre mash-up that puts most theatrical animated releases to shame," raved The Hollywood Reporter.

Echoing this sentiment, Variety added: "Because the nimble, genre-hopping movie is set in the world of K-pop, it may not even occur to fans that they're watching a musical – although it's kind of hard to deny as you catch yourself singing along."

Equally impressed, RogerEbert.com noted: "It is emotionally empowering in ways that have made it a cross-demo hit."

Reflecting on the film's overwhelming success in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, co-director Maggie Kang said: "I think it's going to be part of our lives for a bit. I don't see the fandom slowing down. We hit an all-time high in viewership in week five, which is absolutely insane."

KPop Demon Hunters is currently available to stream on Netflix.
