Happy Gilmore 2 has officially confirmed its release date in a new teaser trailer - and fans are "screaming with joy".

The upcoming sequel to the 1996 cult comedy will arrive on Netflix on July 25, with Adam Sandler reprising his role as the titular golfer as he returns to the game after a long absence.

The trailer reveals that Happy is now a five-time Tour Championship winner, joining the ranks of sporting legends such as Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods.

However, he says that he hasn't "swung a club in years" as he prepares to make a comeback, adding: "I'm a little intimidated. All these guys hit it big now. I don't know where to start."

Happy Gilmore 2 boasts a star-studded cast, with returning cast members including Ben Stiller as Hal L, Christopher McDonald as Happy's golfing nemesis Shooter McGavin, and Julie Bowen as his love interest Virginia Venit.

Fans shared their joy over the sequel's upcoming release in the trailer's comments on YouTube, with one writing: "My inner child is screaming with joy".

"Can't wait for Happy Gilmore 2, let's go," wrote another, while a third commented: "Can't freaking wait! Excited to see all the different cameos."

The original film introduces Happy as a bad-tempered failed hockey player who discovers he has a talent for golf and enters a tournament to help save his grandmother's house.

Happy Gilmore 2 arrives on Netflix on July 25.
