The Old Guard is one of the best action movies on Netflix, so it was no surprise when a sequel was confirmed in August 2021.

What has been a surprise is how long we've had to see the sequel given it filmed in 2022, but that wait is finally almost over.

Netflix has confirmed that The Old Guard 2 will be released on July 2, so only six more months to wait to see the return of Charlize Theron's Andy and her team of immortal warriors.

Based on the graphic novel series by Greg Rucka, the sequel will see Andy and the team fight to protect humanity from a formidable new enemy who threatens their existence.

Newcomers include Henry Golding and Uma Thurman, but we don't yet know who they're playing and whether they'll be friend or foe.

Victoria Mahoney took over from Gina Prince-Bythewood as director for The Old Guard 2, with Prince-Bythewood staying on as producer, and Rucka adapted his own graphic novel with Sarah L Walker.

Last year, Theron reassured fans that the delay for the sequel wasn't a sign it might be scrapped by Netflix like Halle Berry's The Mothership.

Instead, it was just down to Netflix going through "quite a changeover".

"We got kind of stuck in that and our post-production shut down, I think, five weeks into it. They were going through a lot of changes, and I totally understand it," she explained.

The Old Guard 2 is released on Netflix on July 2.
