After the shocking ending of The Platform 2, fans will soon be demanding Netflix to bring The Platform 3 along with some much-needed answers. But has the threequel been officially announced?

Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, The Platform was a massive streaming success back in 2019, becoming one of the streamer's most-watched non-English language movies ever.

Five years later, The Platform 2 is finally out on Netflix, expanding the story with new characters.

The prison system at the heart of the story is the same though – every day, a food platform descends through a vertical structure, formed of 333 floors with two inmates per floor. The distribution of inmates changes monthly, and those who were above might find themselves now starving below.

Who created the Pit and for what purpose? That and many other questions might be answered soon. Here's everything we know about The Platform 3 on Netflix.

Is The Platform 3 happening on Netflix?

Unfortunately, The Platform 3 has yet to be confirmed by Netflix.

What to Read Next

It's not unusual for Netflix to wait a few weeks (sometimes even months) to announce a new sequel, since the streamer takes into consideration the previous movie's viewer performance.

Since The Platform 2 has just been released, it's too early to know if the story will continue. If the movie turns out to be a roaring success, and considering how the sequel ends, it's hard to think there won't be a continuation.

There are still many mysteries left to unveil, and there is still potential in the story to expand this universe further. Luckily, the team behind this dystopian universe is very much ready for a third round.

Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, who has directed both The Platform movies, offered a promising update during the premiere of the sequel at San Sebastián's film festival in September 2024.

"We would love to, but it depends on how The Platform 2 goes," Galder said when asked about The Platform 3 during an interview with Kinotico.

"Obviously, this world is very tough. If it goes well, we will surely have the opportunity to do it. We want to continue asking more questions, and above all, at some point we want to answer who, where, when, and why the Pit was built."

And we want those answers, Galder, we really do.

While we wait to hear about The Platform 3, viewers can now watch The Platform 2 on Netflix following its streaming release on October 4, 2024.

The movie follows two new inmates, Perempuán (played by The Snow Girl star Milena Smit) and Zamiatin (played by Money Heist star Hovik Keuchkerian), as they navigate the horrors of the Pit.

In this new story, the Pit is ruled by a fairer system known as the Law, which a mysterious figure created to ensure that everybody got their share of food.

Not all inmates are compliant with these rules, so there are groups of enforcers, known as the Anointed Ones, delivering brutal punishments.

In a third movie, as Galder pointed out, we might get to find out who is really behind this twisted system.

The Platform and The Platform 2 are now available to watch on Netflix.
