Ay caramba! The creator of The Simpsons, Matt Groening, has dreamed up a brand new animated series – and it's heading to Netflix next year. Yay!

Disenchantment – a name we hope doesn't end up being prophetic – has been billed as an adult animated comedy fantasy series, so in other words, it'll be great.

Think Futurama meets Middle-earth, Disenchantment will be set in the "crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland", where fans will follow the adventures of a drunken princess.

(Is anyone else feeling personally attacked right now?)

Princess Bean and her "oddball" friends Elfo the, erm, elf and Luci the demon will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses and "lots of human fools" on their travels.

Of the new 10-episode series, Matt Groening said: "Ultimately, Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you." (Deep.)

The animation for Disenchantment will be done by the same animators as on Futurama, and will feature some pretty familiar voices, including John DiMaggio, Billy West and Tress MacNeille.

Abbi Jacobson will voice Princess Bean, Nat Faxon will bring Elfo to life, and Eric Andre will take on the role of Luci – plus there's David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, the brand new Bake Off host Noel Fielding and Lucy Montgomery.

Disenchantment and its "biting wit" will be available to stream on Netflix from 2018.
