Coronation Street kicked off a new storyline for Asha Alahan, as the beloved character is set to pursue a romantic connection with somebody in Weatherfield. After a series of unfortunate events, Asha grasped her opportunity tonight.

Tuesday (30 June) saw two instalments of the ITV soap air back-to-back following more scheduling changes, with Asha, Nina and Amy dropping in at the bar as Summer made some new friends.

Summer was gutted, however, when her new 'friends' took off in a taxi before paying their share of the bill. She lamented at being treated like a "doormat" over the years, and said she didn't want to be a "soft touch" any longer.

The following day, in the second of the night's episode, Summer was greeted by her friends at the bistro, who organised brunch for her. She quipped that it was an "intervention", but her friends played it down.

Rather, they said they were merely looking out for her before it ever got to that point. The group was also joined by Mary, with Summer's spirits soon being lifted as they quickly had a laugh and a joke.

Asha, meanwhile, had her eye taken by workmate Sienna, who was at the bistro on a date – at least until they were a no-show. Asha's mood perked up, with her friends telling her to approach Sienna.

She tried to play it cool, but was evidently eager to speak to her. She eventually plucked up the courage, and asked if she would like to come over to their table. Sienna, however, asked Asha to stay, and she agreed.

As Nina, Summer, Amy and Mary called her a "minx" by remarking that a new romance was "on", it remains to be seen if Asha and Sienna's connection will develop. After months of strife, could love be in the air for her?

Tanisha Gorey, who portrays Asha, previously teased elements of the storyline, sharing: "There's definitely something on the horizon and it's really sweet. It's also a little bit sad, but we see Asha having to be supportive. I really hope the fans get behind the story."

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
