For those of you who finished watching Avatar: The Last Airbender season two and rushed to the internet, tapping furiously to find out if there was going to be a season three: we get it. After that cliffhanger, we get it!

We know better than to accept Aang's (Gordon Cormier) season two fate as absolute, and the finale is rife with loose endings, so there is definitely more of the story left to be told. The question is not whether there are plans for a season two, but rather whether Netflix has commissioned one.

Here's everything you need to know about whether Aang and the gang are returning for season three.

Is Avatar: The Last Airbender returning for season 3?

Not only is Avatar: The Last Airbender coming back for season three, filming for the third and final instalment has also already wrapped. In fact, the Netflix series completed production on the third season in November 2025, as confirmed by Tudum.

Executive producer and writer Christine Boylan commemorated the end of filming when she told Tudum: "When we started working on season two, we gathered three forces: integrity, hope, and joy. And here we are almost three years later wrapping the end of production with an immensely talented and devoted team that met those ideals and exceeded them.

"I am eternally grateful to be part of this important, hilarious, action-packed team who is bringing this epic live action story to the world."

When will Avatar: The Last Airbender season 3 air?

Season three of Avatar: The Last Airbender may have wrapped a while ago, but that doesn't mean you should expect it to debut this calendar year.

For one thing, season two has only just made its way to the small screens, so there will need to be at least a little breathing room between releases. Additionally, season two - which wrapped in May 2025 - took over a year to debut, making its way to Netflix on 25 June 2026.

This is most likely down to post-production (you can blame all the fancy earth, air, water and fire bending for taking all those dramatic action scenes from stunning to extremely stunning).

Given that season three wrapped in November 2025, it wouldn't be crazy to expect a Christmas 2027 release date for the final season, and that's at the earliest. There's still a chance it could spill into 2028, which would fit the two-year release date pattern fans have come to expect from the Netflix series, with the first season arriving February 2024.

Who will return for Avatar: The Last Airbender season 3?

The main group of heroes and villains will return, as you'd expect. In the hero camp, we have the following:

• Gordon Cormier as Aang
• Kiawentiio as Katara
• Ian Ousley as Sokka
• Miya Cech as Toph Beifong
• Maria Zhang as Suki

*and Momo and Appa, of course

Meanwhile, serving up scorching despair and destruction will be the Fire Nation's very own Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim), alongside his daughter Azula, played by Elizabeth Yu.

While we're tempted to toss Dallas Liu's Zuko into the enemy camp, we feel a redemption arc that will finally stick coming along. As for Paul Sun-Hyung Lee's Uncle Iroh, he's reformed through and through, but can he help his nephew Zuko see the light before his sister Azula and father Ozai sway him onto a path he clearly wants no part in? Only season three will tell.

The final season's cast members also include:

• Jon Jon Briones as Piandao
• Dichen Lachman as Yangchen
• Tantoo Cardinal as Hama
• Terry Chen as Jeong Jeong
• Dolly De Leon as Lo and Li
• Lily Gao as Ursa Madison
• Madison Hu as Fei

What will happen in Avatar: The Last Airbender season 3?

Things looked pretty dicey for Aang in the season two finale, as he swung between life and death after his compassion for Azula led to her crushing defeat of him. However, there is absolutely no way that's how his story ends. We fully expect Aang to make a full recovery, but how is the question.

He will also need to complete his training and finally learn how to fire bend.

Season three is almost certainly teeing up the final battle between the Avatar and his gang and the Fire Nation. With Zuko's flip-flopping allegiance, there's no telling which side he will be fighting on but we have a feeling that Uncle Iroh will be lending his skilled fire-bending hand to Aang.

Since redemption is in the air, is there a little left over for Azula too? We don't know about you, but the ruthless, ambitious and driven tyrant seemed to show just a smidge of softness in season two, so perhaps it's not too late for her to see the error of her ways.

Season three can't come quick enough. We need those answers now!
