Netflix has axed its "easy to binge" crime drama The Waterfront after one season.
Created by Scream's Kevin Williamson and based on real-life events, the show follows the fictional Buckley family as they attempt to rescue their failing fishing empire by getting involved in the drug-running business.
According to Deadline, the show has been cancelled after just one season, with Williamson informing the cast and crew about the streamer's decision.
Following its release on 19 June, the show spent a number of weeks climbing the Netflix streaming charts amassing an impressive five weeks in the global Top 10 for English-language series.
The series, starring Holt McCallany, Jake Weary, Melissa Benoist and Maria Bello, Danielle Campbell and Topher Grace, was popular among audiences.

What to Read Next
"If you're looking for something easy to binge with a decent mix of drama, character depth, and just enough mystery to keep you invested, Waterfront is worth a look," reads one user review on IMDb.
"As a thriller, the series is consistently entertaining and keeps you hooked, yet while the main story barrels forward, the narrative occasionally wobbles," penned another.
One viewer said: "Vibe-wise, it's kinda like a mix of Boardwalk Empire meets Narcos. You get that gritty, tense underworld feel with some slick drama and intense character moments. It's got that slow-burn tension but with enough action and twists to keep you hooked."

"Alright, so The Waterfront was actually pretty decent. I wasn't expecting a masterpiece, but it kept me interested enough to binge through the whole thing," said another.
Speaking previously about the show, Williamson said: "This is about a working man who’s trying to make a go of it for his family. They've pulled themselves up from nothing and they've built this mini fishing empire in their small little town. Now it's being taken away from them bit by bit.
"They'll do anything to hold onto it, because it represents their family."
The Waterfront is streaming on Netflix.
