Love Island bombshell George Knight has broken his silence following his unexpected departure from the villa, sharing a statement on Instagram. Earlier this week, an ITV spokesperson confirmed that George had left Mallorca for "private reasons," just hours after arriving as one of the show's first bombshells of the season.

After remaining tight-lipped, George addressed his exit directly on Friday (5 June) in a statement posted on his official Instagram account, hinting at the dire family circumstances behind his decision to leave the show.

"Family comes first, always," he wrote. "Leaving the @loveisland Villa was a decision made in order to be with my family. Out of respect for them, I’d prefer not to go into any further detail. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with kind messages and support! It genuinely means a lot."

George's departure came as a shock to viewers at home after he entered the villa alongside fellow bombshell Yasmin and was immediately handed a major responsibility. The pair were tasked with secretly deciding which boy and girl should be eliminated from Love Island after just 24 hours.

Their decision ultimately landed on Ellie and Samraj, who left the main villa immediately, although a twist later revealed that their journeys to find love were far from over. During his brief stint on the ITV2 dating show, George explored connections with Robyn and Mica, coupled up with Sam and Samraj, respectively.

Viewers at home watched him grow close to Robyn in particular, with the pair sharing a kiss on the terrace shortly before news of his departure emerged. At the time, a Love Island spokesperson said: "For private reasons, George has left the Love Island villa." No further details regarding the exit had been provided.

George's exit means his time on the show lasted a matter of days, making him one of the shortest-serving bombshells in recent Love Island history. His exit also raised questions about how the villa dynamic could have evolved had he remained in the competition, particularly given his budding connections and involvement in one of the series' earliest twists.

Meanwhile, the drama continues in the Love Island villa as new bombshells Priya and Kavan settled in after their arrival during Thursday's episode (4 June). The pair are preparing to make a game-changing decision of their own, involving Ellie and Samraj, who could still be eliminated this Friday after a fresh recoupling.

Ellie and Samraj - who were whisked to The Hideaway after being dumped by Yasmin and George - were informed on Thursday that they would only be able to stay on Love Island if Priya and Kavan agreed to partner up with them. But with the bombshells already making connections in the villa with their fellow islanders, both Ellie and Samraj's fates are in the balance.

Love Island continues this Friday at 9pm on ITV2.
