Love Island stars Olivia and Alex Bowen have opened up about the heartbreaking loss of one of their twin babies.

Appearing on Loose Women, the couple talked about how they were initially expecting twins but sadly lost one of them eight weeks into the pregnancy.

Recalling what happened at their six week scan just before Christmas, Olivia said: "As soon as I sat down, I could see two babies and not one, we were just floored by that...

"I have twins in my family, and as soon as we found out I was already quite nervous because we've not had a great history of twins in our family."

She explained they went back at eight weeks, after a two week period of planning life with two new babies, and she started to get tearful when recalling they were given some devastating news. "Something happened called vanishing twin syndrome," she shared.

"One of the babies just basically didn't have a heartbeat but I'd had no symptoms, I'd had no pain, no bleeding, absolutely nothing to tell me that was what we were walking into. We were completely floored, we were expecting to have these two little babies, but they can literally vanish."

While the news was heartbreaking, Olivia said she felt "so lucky to have experienced that moment of possibly having twins".

Olivia and Alex shared they also found comfort in talking to other people that have been through similar situations. They encouraged more men to speak about miscarriages too, sharing they wanted to "change that perception of not being able to" by being open about their experience.

The duo confirmed they're expecting a baby girl and said their two-year-old son Abel is very excited at the prospect of being a big brother, already talking to his mum's belly.
