The Traitors spoilers follow.

There was a rare occurrence on the latest episode of The Traitors, with Faithful Anna Duke turning down an invitation to switch allegiances.

Wednesday’s (January 8) episode concluded with a cliffhanger as Traitors Linda and Minah elected to recruit Anna to their side instead of murdering another player, with fans left waiting for her decision.

In Thursday’s (January 9) instalment, it was revealed that Anna had opted to decline their invitation, reasoning that she wanted to play the game on her “own terms.” Host Claudia Winkleman informed Linda and Minah of Anna’s decision, with the pair saying they were “disappointed.”

Anna opted to keep the attempted recruitment quiet for the majority of the episode, though she did eventually reveal the situation to Charlotte. This came after an intense banishment ceremony, which saw Tyler Smith – a Faithful – become the eighth player to exit the show.

There was also another reveal of sorts during the episode, with Lisa Coupland confirming that she was an ordained priest after a remark during a previous ceremony had come into question.

“I need to tell you all something,” began Lisa as she greeted her co-stars. “A lot of people have questioned the reason why I said: ‘as God is my witness.’ I am an ordained Anglican priest, and I would never take God’s name in vain.

“The oath I took as a priest means I cannot deceive nor be treacherous,” she added, before admitting that the confession made her “wide open” for the next murder. “So if I don’t see you tomorrow, I love you all.”

After she was questioned by Joe as to why she came on the show knowing there was a possibility she could be selected as a Traitor, Lisa reasoned: “Because what self-respecting murder mystery doesn’t have a priest in it?”

The confession aroused the suspicion of one co-star, with Anna remarking: “Everybody just totally ate it up. I feel like I’m the only one questioning it. It’s a game for liars.” Will Lisa's declaration backfire?

The Traitors airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
