Acclaimed BBC series Normal People is set to be removed from Netflix very soon. The Ireland-set drama is based on the book of the same name by Sally Rooney, and initially became a big hit when it was released during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Launching the careers of Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal, the story follows the secretive relationship between characters Marianne Sheridan and Connell Waldron from adolescence into young adulthood.

The 12-part series was added to Netflix last summer, though if you haven't seen it yet, you don't have long left to watch as the last day to catch it is 14 July. However, fear not as the show is still available on BBC iPlayer and Disney+.

Normal People drew huge acclaim, sitting at 91% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes based on 91 reviews, with KDHX calling it "an experience as much as a television series" and "not to be missed".

"Normal People is beautiful," Digital Spy added in our verdict. "It sweeps you up in its arms, capturing the very essence of the book – that all-encompassing love between Marianne and Connell that transcends the physical, the pair fascinated by the way each thinks and how they see the world."

The Guardian further called it "a naturalistic masterclass in emotional depth and cerebral elegance", while TIME said it "powerfully captures the angst and intensity of young love".

"Normal People, beautifully made, is an achingly powerful story of intimacy, affection, power-dynamics, class division and money," wrote Globe and Mail.

Ready Steady Cut added: "The transporting power of literature is transplanted here to a charming television drama that imbues that story framework with all the powerful benefits of performance and visual storytelling. It's the best of both worlds."

Meanwhile, the two leads got fans excited two years ago around the prospect of a second season, though a tease they posted turned out to be a marathon screening of the show.

Mescal later told disappointed fans: "Hello! The news is... um, we are incredibly sorry if we led people on, it's not a season 2 announcement."

"No, not yet!" added Edgar-Jones. "There's still time, keep the faith."

Normal People is streaming on Netflix until 14 July. The show is also available on BBC iPlayer and Disney+.
