Tom Hardy has reportedly been axed from MobLand after filming for the upcoming second season was completed, with the actor set to leave his role ahead of the proposed third season.

The actor, who produces and stars in the popular crime drama, has reportedly been fired by Paramount amid on-set tensions (via Puck News). Digital Spy has contacted Paramount, production company 101 Studios, and reps for Hardy for comment.

Puck News said that reps for Paramount and Hardy declined to comment when it reached out.

It has been alleged that Hardy clashed with producers after arriving to the set late during production for the second season, with the actor being said to have given unwarranted notes on the scripts as well as changing dialogue.

It has also been claimed that Hardy expressed dissatisfaction at the series having an ensemble cast, though it doesn't necessarily mean that the actor had any issues with his co-stars. It is currently unclear how his reported departure will affect the third season.

Puck News has additionally claimed that producer Jez Butterworth had threatened to quit before Hardy's departure.

The Hollywood Reporter, conversely, claims to have heard from a separate source that Hardy has not exited "yet", but discussions are "ongoing".

One of Hardy's colleagues on a different project has told Digital Spy: "He is awkward for creatives to work with."

The series, which is created and co-written by Ronan Bennett, sees Hardy portray Harry De Souza, a fixer who works for the Harrigan crime family. As tensions rise, Harry is tasked with protecting his employer's interests and preventing a large gang war.

The second season, which was greenlit in June 2025, is set to see the narrative scope widened, with Hardy teasing that "international elements" of organised crime would be expanded in upcoming episodes.

"[It will touch on] the control of drugs, ammunition, weapons, people and all kinds of things that go through Europe, from Africa through to South America, Pakistan and the variable commodities that move around Europe," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

"There are families that are involved in each European country that are vying for power to have that status to be able to move these kind of commodities through, and who polices that and how that fits into a world stage," he added.

The crime drama, which also stars Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, has received generally positive reviews from critics thus far, with Rotten Tomatoes currently reporting an approval rating of 76% for the first season.

"If MobLand is just a well-acted gangster tale, there’s worse company to have. But there’s enough here to be hopeful that it has deeper ambitions," noted The Boston Globe, while London Evening Standard dubbed it an "absolute hoot".

Hardy famously clashed with Charlize Theron on the set of 2015 movie Mad Max: Fury Road. In the oral history Blood, Sweat, and Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road, Theron said that she was "in survival mode" and was "really scared shitless" by Hardy.

Of the tension between the pair, Hardy said: "I was in over my head in many ways. The pressure on both of us was overwhelming at times. What she needed was a better, perhaps more experienced partner in me."

Theron recently touched on her experience working on Mad Max: Fury Road in an interview with Elle USA, when she said: "I have vivid memories of everything that I’ve done - really vivid, sometimes fever-dream-like memories... There are moments on Fury Road I can still feel - being in that rig, driving in that desert. When I talk about that movie, I can taste the dust."
