Victoria, the "addictive" British historical drama with a "soapy" plot, has landed a new streaming home in the UK. Starring Doctor Who's Jenna Coleman as a young Queen Victoria and Tom Hughes as Prince Albert, the show follows the young Queen, starting with her ascension to the throne at age 18.

The logline reads: "Queen Victoria ascends the throne and asserts her authority in a male-dominated court, resisting political manipulation and those who underestimate her."

Created by Daisy Goodwin, the series also stars Adrian Schiller, Tommy Knight, Jordan Waller, Nell Hudson, Ferdinand Kingsley, Anna Wilson-Jones, Daniela Holtz and Catherine Flemming.

All three seasons of the period drama were recently added to Netflix, meaning UK viewers with a subscription can binge-watch the entire series now.

A hit among critics, Victoria has an average score of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, with season three achieving an impressive 92% rating from 13 reviews.

The Guardian wrote: "Victoria is at its light, good-looking, Sunday evening best when you can sit back and enjoy the soapy ride. It is easier not to have all the facts, or at least to ignore them, for an escapist hour or so."

"The recipe is so familiar that it feels inevitable. Daisy Goodwin's drama is comfort food. It is a well-presented pudding, a MasterChef dessert," penned The Standard.

The Independent said of the show: "Victoria, then, is just another excuse for a sumptuous costume drama, soporific viewing for a Sunday night that you don't have to pay much attention to, as you finish off the red wine and ponder the week ahead."

"The 40-year-old me was less enthralled, although Jenna Coleman's performance as Victoria remained an admirably adept balancing act of poise and passion, and perhaps a shade more Not Amused than previously," wrote The Telegraph.

Meanwhile, The Arts Desk called Victoria "surprisingly addictive", adding that "the CGI budget could do with an upgrade, because the wishy-washy artists' impressions of the London skyline are mystifyingly inept".

Victoria is streaming on Netflix.
