Netflix has released first-look pictures of Harlan Coben's upcoming thriller starring James Nesbitt in lead role. Described as "narcotic" and "unmissable", Run Away is set to follow the likes of Missing You and Fool Me Once in Coben's tradition of releasing a brand new series in the new year, with a release date of 1 January 2026.
In the eight-part series, Simon Greene's (Nesbitt) perfect family life is upended when his eldest daughter Paige runs away from home. As per the synopsis, the drama escalates when he eventually finds a vulnerable Paige "strung out on drugs in a city park".
It continues: "He finally has the chance to bring his little girl home. But it turns out she's not alone, and an argument escalates into shocking violence.
"In the aftermath, Simon loses his daughter all over again, and his search to find her will take him into a dangerous underworld, revealing deep secrets that could tear his family apart forever."
The first-look pictures track the trajectory of the Greene family's turmoil, featuring a happy image of the husband-and-wife duo Simon and Ingrid (Minnie Driver), as well as the contention that follows.
Gavin & Stacey actor Ruth Jones also stars as Elena Ravenscroft in the new series, alongside Alfred Enoch and Gangs of London's Lucian Msamati.
What to Read Next
Ahead of filming, Coben praised the cast line-up, saying: "Jimmy Nesbitt, Ruth Jones, Alfred Enoch, Lucian Msamati and Minnie Driver - the cast is an embarrassment of riches. I can't wait to start filming."
Danny Brocklehurst is the lead writer on this Coben project, which has relocated the narrative from the US to the UK, with filming taking place around Manchester and the North West of England.
The new set of pictures arrive just days ahead of the release of Coben's other series Lazarus which sees Peaky Blinders' Sam Claflin take on the role of grieving son Joel Lazarus.
Joel returns home after the shocking death of his father Dr. Jonathan Lazarus (Bill Nighy), who died by suicide, only to be faced with inexplainable disturbing experiences that begin to occur.
Unlike most Coben series, which are adapted from his existing novels, Lazarus is an original drama written for television. Speaking on the development of the story Coben explained (via Radio Times): "I thought, 'I could write this as a novel, but I'm seeing it as a TV series'. It's a little more of a ghost story, very visual."
Run Away will debut 1 January 2026 on Netflix.
