Harlan Coben's upcoming drama Lazarus is on its way to Prime Video. We already knew that a 2025 release window was planned, thanks to the author and creator himself, but the new mystery series will arrive on the streaming service this autumn.

The official synopsis of the thriller reveals: "Lazarus follows a man who returns home after his father's death and begins to have disturbing experiences that can't be explained.

"He quickly becomes entangled in a series of cold-case murders as he grapples with the mystery of his father's death and his sister's murder 25 years ago..."

The cast is led by Sam Claflin (Peaky Blinders), who plays the central character. This marks a return to Prime Video for the star, who played one of the leads in 2023's breakout hit Daisy Jones & The Six.

Other recent projects of the actor include the supernatural horror movie Bagman and a new period drama called The Count of Monte Cristo that's streaming now.

Bill Nighy will take on the role of his father, and the rest of the ensemble includes Alexandra Roach (Nightsleeper), David Fynn (Daddy Issues), Ewan Horrocks (The Last Kingdom) and Jack Deam (The Long Shadow, Father Brown).

What to Read Next

Roach's character has been revealed as Jenna Lazarus, and the synopsis adds that she "has buried herself in a world of spiritual practice", only "when her brother (Claflin) returns home and starts experiencing unexplained phenomena, she is forced to confront secrets from her own past".

Taking a different approach from Harlan Coben's other streaming hits – including Fool Me Once, Missing You, Stay Close and The Stranger Lazarus is an original drama written for television, rather than an adaptation of an existing novel.

"I thought, 'I could write this as a novel, but I'm seeing it as a TV series'. It's a little more of a ghost story, very visual," Coben previously revealed to Radio Times.

But fans will be pleased to hear that the series should still have a familiar feel, as the author will once again team with his regular creative collaborator Danny Brocklehurst (Brassic). The pair have previously working together on a number of his past Netflix hits.

Lazarus filmed in Manchester, and we previously got a glimpse at Sam Claflin in character through some photos on set.

An exact release date has not yet been confirmed, but the show will arrive on Prime Video in the autumn.
