The Gathering, a British "whodunit" series, has arrived to Netflix today. The show – from the production company also behind the BBC's hit police procedural Line of Duty, as well as the Suranne Jones-led Vigil – first aired on Channel 4 in 2024.

The cast of The Gathering includes Warren Brown (Luther, The Responder), Vinette Robinson (Six Four, Boiling Point), Christine Tremarco (Adolescence, Little Boy Blue), Eva Morgan (This City Is Ours), Sadie Soverall (Fate: The Winx Saga) and Sonny Walker (The Responder).

Created and written by novelist and screenwriter Helen Walsh, the drama marked her first original screenplay for television. Channel 4 has described it as a "gripping thriller", and the logline on its own streaming service reveals: "A violent attack on a teenager at an illegal beach rave sends shockwaves of suspicion through a Merseyside community. As secrets and lies are laid bare, will the truth emerge?"

The Gathering was filmed and set in Liverpool and around Merseyside, and was also described as being "a whodunnit – or, in this case – a-why-done it."

According to the marketing for the drama, the story focuses on " a group of disparate teenagers and their parents", each with a "motive" for the attack. It's been described how "each episode privileges a different character's lens to give insight into the respective worlds of these teenagers and their families and allows the viewer to speculate who committed the crime."

Despite being well received at the time that it aired, The Gathering did not return for a second season.

"We're very proud of The Gathering and everything it has achieved," a Channel 4 spokeswoman shared with Deadline at the time. "The series championed regional voices both on and off screen and was widely praised for its authentic representation of Liverpool and Merseyside."

The latest drama to be added to Netflix, it follows the arrival of ITV sitcom Plebs, the BBC's Ireland-set phenomenon Normal People, and the Sheridan Smith and Daniel Mays-fronted period drama Mrs Biggs.

The Gathering is available to watch on Channel 4 and Netflix.
