Classic 1980s detective series Murder, She Wrote has landed a new streaming home ahead of the proposed reboot.

The show famously starred Angela Lansbury as writer and amateur detective Jessica Fletcher, running for 12 seasons and over 250 episodes between 1984 and 1996.

Fans wanting to catch up on the series are in luck, as part of the first season is now available to stream via Channel 5 – though viewers will have to get in quick, as they are being removed over the next few weeks.

The show revolves around Fletcher, who is notably able to get to the bottom of murders in Cabot Cove, outwitting the detectives assigned to the cases.

The character was named "a perfect detective" by The Boston Globe, who called her "as logical as Sherlock Holmes, as disarming as Columbo and as lovable as Julia Child", while Entertainment Weekly said the series was "chock-full of charm".

A Murder, She Wrote reboot movie is currently in the works, with Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis recently confirming that she will be taking over the role of Fletcher from the late Lansbury.

Revealing that it is "happening", the star told Entertainment Tonight: "We're a minute away. But very excited. Very excited. But I'm tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple other things to hustle and then I'll get to enjoy that work."

The new Murder, She Wrote will be written and executive produced by Orange Is the New Black's Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum.

Angelo added that it was Fletcher's "time to return", further teasing: "It's with Pascal Pictures in Pascal and Universal, and we're very excited to bring [Jessica Fletcher to the big screen]."

Murder, She Wrote is streaming on Channel 5.
