The BBC has confirmed that acclaimed and award-winning gritty crime drama Rebus is coming back for a second season.
The Scottish series features Richard Rankin as the titular Detective Sergeant, who tries to balance his job fighting the criminal underworld with a messy personal life.
The first season premiered last year and won three RTS Scotland awards — for Best Drama, Writer and Director — as well as racking up over 6 million views across all platforms for its first episode.
That success had led the Beeb to commission a second season, which will see Rebus explore the link between the Edinburgh drug trade and the high-class world of law and finance.
It's an area where the police fear to tread, due to all the power the executive class wields. Will Rebus be able to get anywhere, or will he find this problem is just too systematic to untangle?

BBC Scotland's Head of Commissioning Louise Thornton said: "We were blown away with the audience response to the new-look Rebus first time round, so bringing it back for a second series was always a priority.
"The combination of brilliant storytelling, powerful performances and top class production values will make this new series must-see television. This commission is part of our recently announced strategy to bring more high-impact scripted content from Scotland, and we're confident audiences will enjoy this next series as much as they did the first."
Writer Gregory Burke added: "I'm delighted to be given the chance by the BBC and Eleventh Hour Films to bring Rebus back to the nation's TV screens once more.

"[Novel author] Ian Rankin's character and body of work are the perfect materials with which to explore contemporary Scottish society and the turbulent world that surrounds it."
Season 2 will once again feature six episodes, all of which will be directed by a returning Niall MacCormick.
Rebus season 1 can be streamed now on BBC iPlayer and Netflix. Season 2 doesn't currently have a release date.
