Rose Ayling Ellis' hit ITV drama Code of Silence has been picked up for a second series following an "overwhelming audience response" to its debut season.

News of the show's recommissioning came from an official ITV press release, which said that the thriller has become "the most-watched drama across all platforms and channels in Q2 of 2025".

The series, which sees Deaf woman Alison Brooks (Ayling-Ellis) use her lip-reading skills to aid the police in taking down a gang of criminals, has been described by Stylist "a landmark moment for inclusion and representation" and "the must-watch thriller of the year".

ITV described the response from viewers at home as "overwhelming". A YouGov survey highlighted praise for the first series over "its portrayal of BSL within a gripping narrative" and "the reframing of lip-reading as a valuable skill".

Speaking on the show's success and renewal, lead actor Ayling-Ellis said: "I'm so proud that Code of Silence has been recommissioned.

"The response to the first series has been incredible, and it means so much to be part of a drama that not only keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, but also puts a Deaf character at the heart of the story."
