California Avenue, a new drama coming to the BBC, has announced its star-studded cast, led by Adolescence and The Crown star Erin Doherty.
The six-part series, which has been described as "sparkling" and "brimming with humour and love", will be set in the 1970s, with the story playing out in a secluded canal-side caravan park in the English countryside.
Doherty (who has also previously starred in the BBC series Chloe) will play the character of Lela, who will arrive to the park with her 11-year-old child, on the run and looking for refuge. The synopsis goes on to say that "it is here that a fractured family will come together, ghosts and demons will firmly be put to rest and an unexpected love is forged..."
Also announced to be joining California Avenue are stars of film and television Bill Nighy and Helena Bonham Carter, who are set to take on the role of Lela's parents Jerry and Eddie. Tom Burke (BBC's Strike) will also star as the character of Cooper, who has been described as a "showman outcast".
California Avenue is the latest drama to come from the BAFTA-award winning writer and director Hugo Blick, whose previous TV credits include The English and The Honourable Woman. The series will be produced by Drama Republic, the makers of Netflix hit One Day and the Suranne Jones-fronted BBC drama Doctor Foster.
According to the BBC, filming for the upcoming California Avenue is set to take place in and around Hertfordshire, and will begin later this summer. Further cast announcements will be made at a later date, and California Avenue be coming to BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
