The BBC has shared a first look at Gavin and Stacey star Robert Wilfort's transformation for his guest role in Father Brown.

The actor, best known for his role as Jason West and his involvement in the infamous fishing trip, will guest star in a new episode of the BBC One murder mystery series today at 2pm.

He'll play William Fitzgibbon, described as a "respectable" maths professor at Gloucester University (via What To Watch.com).

Wilfort looks almost unrecognisable in a first look at his new role, having lost Jason's trademark beard. He's also donning a look more suitable for a professor in the 1950s, wearing glasses, a bow tie and a waistcoat.

However, Brenda (Ruby-May Martinwood) overhears William and another member of the sewing circle, Catherine Glover (Carlyss Peer), having a secret conversation that implies they're having an affair.

When Catherine is found stabbed to death, William becomes suspect number one and is taken in for questioning by Chief Inspector Sullivan (Tom Chambers). But Father Brown (Mark Williams) isn't so sure that William is the culprit.

Wilfort recently reprised his role as Jason in Gavin and Stacey's 2024 Christmas special, which officially wrapped up the stories of its beloved characters from Essex and Barry.

In a behind-the-scenes episode released in early January, fans were teased with some retro 'home footage' from Uncle Bryn and Jason's infamous fishing trip.

The clip shows Jason catching a fish before Uncle Bryn proudly holds it up with him, stating: "No one will go hungry tonight!"

Of course, before we got to see what really went down on the trip, the special cut to credits.

Father Brown airs on BBC One.
