The BBC has shared first-look photos of The Gold season two, unveiling a number of new cast members.

The crime drama returns for a second instalment later this year on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, with Tom Hughes, Stephen Campbell Moore and Joshua McGuire among the new faces joining the show.

Suited and booted, Campbell Moore is teased looking serious in one photo, with a frustrated Joshua McGuire walking away from Emun Elliott (back as Tony Brightwell) in another.

Meanwhile, Victoria star Tom Hughes looks like he's trying to charm actor Rochelle Neil in another teaser image.

Fans will be pleased to see Downton Abbey and Paddington actor Hugh Bonneville back as Brian Boyce, alongside Charlotte Spencer's Nicki Jennings and Brightwell, the coppers from season one who saw the convictions of several involved in the theft and handling of the 1983 Brink's-Mat gold.

"Series two explores what happened to the other half, and the criminal fortune it created," teases the official show synopsis.

"As the police investigation continues, it becomes a tense, high-stakes journey into international money laundering and organised crime, while the police embark on dramatic manhunts as they desperately try to solve the longest and most expensive investigation in the history of the Metropolitan Police."

Also back for the second outing is Tom Cullen (John Palmer), who is seen in a still alongside new cast member Joshua Samuels, plus Stefanie Martini and Sam Spruell who play Marnie Palmer and Charlie Miller.

The Gold season two is written by Eric and Guilt's Neil Forsyth and will consist of six episodes in total.

The Gold season 2 will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year. Season one is available to stream on iPlayer now.
