Doc Martin star Martin Clunes has hinted that the beloved ITV drama could return.

The series came to an end in December 2022 after 18 years, with its final episode airing as a Christmas special.

However, Clunes has now revealed that there have been some conversations about a potential Doc Martin movie, adding that "it could happen".

"There was talk from one of the movie distributors about making a film version of Doc Martin, and my answer at the moment, two years on from finishing the 10th and final series, is never say never – it could happen," he said (via The Sun).

"We did film a couple of feature-length Christmas specials which ran to 90 and 120 minutes and that proved we could pull it off, when it comes to making a longer version of Doc Martin. So it is possible."

"All good things have to come to an end, and I'm sure there are lots of people who aren't fans of the show who think it's terribly repetitive anyway. But we're at huge pains not to repeat ourselves," he said.

"I just think we've sort of done everything. I mean, it would be so great to just sort of carry on, but I don't think we can keep it as good."

Meanwhile, Clunes recently returned to screens in ITV's latest drama Out There, which premiered on Sunday (January 19).

The actor stars in the six-part series as Welsh farmer Nathan, who is confronted with "dark forces seeping into his rural community".
