Jason Watkins's ITV drama McDonald & Dodds has been cancelled after four seasons.
The detective series aired its fourth season last summer, which concluded with DCI Lauren McDonald (Tala Gouveia) accepting her partner's proposal.
Despite hopes from fans for wedding bells in season five, ITV has now cancelled the series after ratings for the final season didn’t meet the threshold for a recommission (via Radio Times).

Titled Catch You Later, the Channel 5 series will star Watkins as police detective Huw Miller, who is haunted by a case he failed to solve: a stalker in his town who toyed with his victims before murdering them.
"As Huw attempts to settle into retirement, the case is never far from his mind – and when new neighbour Patrick Harbottle moves in and utters the chilling phrase 'catch you later' – the sign-off the stalker used to taunt Huw during the investigation – Huw is determined he’s finally got his man," the synopsis continues.
"What follows is a high stakes game of psychological chess between the two neighbours as Huw’s world begins to crumble around him."
Grantchester actor Robson Green has been cast as Patrick Harbottle, while Casualty's Sunetra Sarker also stars.
Catch You Later is expected to air on Channel 5 in 2025.
