Coronation Street's Andy Whyment could go down as one of the worst contestants in Celebrity Catchphrase history before his appearance on the popular game show has even made it to air.

In an upcoming episode that was filmed before the pandemic and will air this Saturday (September 19), the actor – who plays Kirk Sutherland on the long-running soap – and former I'm A Celeb star faced off against Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling and Good Morning Britain's Charlotte Hawkins.

Struggling to build to his prize fund to win some money for his chosen charity, having been stumped by several of the previous catchphrases, Andy insisted on working at least one out for himself.

Turns out though, it was a task that's easier said than done.

"I just don't see it – I'm really getting frustrated with myself," he told host Stephen Mulhern.

Stephen jokingly replied: "I don't think we've had one show where a contestant has never got one right – you could do it!"

Fortunately, fans know that he does go on to earn some money thanks to a promo clip released by ITV – and he was pretty excited about it.

"Anyone would think you'd won the 50 grand [jackpot]," Stephen laughed as Andy dropped to his knees and thanked God for helping him realise that the catchphrase was supposed to be, 'Kick in the teeth'.

Andy also shared why he chose St Ann's Hospice in Manchester as his chosen charity. He explained: "My nana passed away in there and for the final three weeks of her life, they really made her feel like a Queen."

Celebrity Catchphrase continues on Saturday, September 19 at 6pm on ITV. Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on the same channel.
